Mark Douglas Langford, Harvard MBA turned Corporate Shaman, works with companies and their employees to enhance individual life/work balance and introduce spiritually based best practices that improve productivity and profitability. In 2004, in full health and at the pinnacle of his life and career, Mark contracted a very serious, penicillin resistant infection from a routine arthroscopy. After a dozen surgeries and forty-one days of lying immobilized in a hospital bed, Mark experienced a life-changing encounter with what he can only describe as the “spirit world.” He communed with a spiritual presence that revealed to him that his life purpose is to help and heal others. From this epiphany, Mark developed the inspiration to integrate spiritual principles into what he knew best: the corporate world.
Following his spiritual awakening, Mark became very sensitive to the widespread despair that affected many of his colleagues and working friends. He observed that many feared for their jobs, were afraid to say “no” at work, and even neglected to take paid vacation. He deduced that this fearful employee behavior is an underlying cause of reduced creativity, motivation and morale, which in turn results in lower productivity and profitability for their employers. Drawing from his organizational competence, Mark combined practical spirituality, innovative business practices and inner genius to craft a fresh approach to realizing a constructive life/work balance that benefits employees and companies alike. Seeing the power of this creation, he vowed to initiate and facilitate a movement to transform conventional companies into extraordinary Conscious Corporations.
